Top 10 Graphic Design Resource Websites
Feb 14 2009
Ten years ago there was barely any information on the web concerning graphic design. But now the web is overpopulated with graphic resource sites that are all fighting for your traffic. I've taken the here to quickly review and compile a list of the top ten best design resources that will help you become a better graphic designer in to time.
I have personally used all of the design resource websites listed here from half a year to six years. Everything here has proved itself with continued diligence in providing great quality content. If it wasn't for these websites I wouldn't be the graphic designer that I am today. So I hope that these resources will be as much help to you, as they have been to me.
One of the newer graphic design blogs out there. Originally I really didn't care for it, but the writer has recently been publishing some amazing content as of late. Actually I used one of their tutorials to create all of the header screenshots on this article.
A very basic and well designed gallery that allows you to rate and browse through designs. Some very interesting content here and a great place for logo or business card ideas. This is also one of the first places I look around for new ideas.
When I first bumped into Abduzeedo I was immediately trying to figure out how the title was pronounced. After I was able to get past that, I realized that it was one of the best design resources out there. They have easy to follow tutorials that yield ground breaking results and a great daily inspiration feature that is published in their blog every couple days. They do publish quite a bit of content, but all of it is great, hard to keep up with though.
BlogSpoon Graphics is one of the most versatile graphic design blogs out there. The author posts a huge variety of tutorials for Illustrator and Photoshop. Did I mention that they also provide some great commercially licensed freebies?
Good Tutorials has always been one of the largest and best places to find a tutorial about anything. You can search for web to graphic design tutorials and even upload your own tutorial!
Deviant Art is the world's largest online art community. This website has everything you could possibly think of concerning art (tutorials, cosplay, brushes, theater, animation, ect). My only complaint about the site is the praised artwork is primarily anime based and many great artists go unnoticed here. Every artist should probably have a DA account though.
This website only publishes amazing tutorials that range from beginner to expert. They provide coding for their web based content and have some interesting documentation on 3D graphics.

This is one of my favorite design resource websites, they have a ton of different color palettes and patterns you can search through. This will become really resourceful when you need to design a color scheme from scratch for a project. You should also check out their blog which has great color theory and concepts.
GoMedia is actually one of the most talented graphic design companies. They sell some of the best vector graphics and design resources you'll find on the internet (at prices that aren't highway robbery). Their blog GoMediaZine publishes tutorials with the newest techniques, some of these can be quite difficult though if you're just starting out. You can also get free vector graphics and resources if you subscribe to their blog .
When it comes to the online tutorial community, drawing is probably one of the least covered areas. You'll probably need to go to college or work through a lot of books to properly improved your skills. But ImagineFX provides amazing tutorials from the top conceptual artists for creating digital artwork. This is one website every artist should know about.

Excellent resources! Those screenshots look great.
i am completely knew in thw graphic world and i will like to know and use it soon, because my activities will be revolving around the graphic design.
How do i start and and which is site is best for me as i cant afford the class tutorial for now, i am hoping i can gain some experience here on the internate.
Thanks.
Hey Richard, GoMediaZine, Blog Spoon, and Abduzeedo are all great places to learn tutorials. Although I do highly recommend this book for Photoshop CS3 and this book for Photoshop CS4. These books have literally everything you need to learn from the ground up (they're where I started).
Nice to see you make postings on this topic, I have to bookmark this web site. Just keep up the good work.
Interesting, never thought of it like that
Hi. I needed to inform you that some parts of your site are tricky to read for me, as I am color blind. I have tritanopia, however there are more types of color blindness which will also experience problems. I can read the largest part of the web page OK, and the elements I have difficulties with I am able to understand by using a custom browser. Just the same, it'd be cool if you would bear in mind we color-blind people while doing the next site redesign. Thanks.
Sorry about that, you should check out my new website project Ash Blue Web Design. Where I attempted to fix color contrast problems for better accessibility. Let me know if you can see everything ok there.
